Death & Resurrection

๐Ÿœ™ Death
Every character in the game starts out having already died once. Your character's first death occurred during the Last Great War, around 100 years before modern time. How their first death happened is up to you as a player, but they would have been killed during one of the battles. They may have been a soldier, a prisoner, a civilian casualty, a thief looting the bodies of the dead, or any other background that suits their character and history, but they must have died on one of the battlefields in order to be here now. Each time your character dies they will have no awareness of how much time has passed since their death, but they will remember dying, even if the death came quickly.

When a character dies their animas disappears into a cloud of red or blue dust and returns with them when they are resurrected. A character's body remains wherever it fell unless moved by another person or creature, dressed in the same clothing they died in. After death, their dragon glass soul vial will lose some of the blue fluid contained within it. There is nothing stopping other characters or creatures from carrying off the character's body or possessions ICly and players may work that out OOCly if it is something they wish to play with. Upon resurrection, a character will feel the pull of the vial wherever it is and must retrieve it.

If a character's soul vial is completely drained through either their deaths or the deaths of their animas they become mortal and can no longer be resurrected. Their next death will be their last and their animas will no longer return. Players can avoid this OOCly by restoring some of the fluid through rewards or avoiding killing their character once they no longer have any life essence in their vial. Characters with empty vials are much colder and lacking in concern for morality or consequences than they would normally be.

A character's essence level is tracked on the taken page and deaths must be reported to this page so the mod team can keep track of them. If a player wishes to drop their character or reset them they can have their character die a final death. The character's essence will be completely drained and they can re-app the character, changing any aspect of their app they choose so long as the character is still IC. This app will be treated as a fresh app. ICly the character will no longer be the same person they were previously. They will share a name and obvious similarities to the character they were before, but they will no longer be that person.

Please always keep in mind that while your characters will die in this game, death is not without consequence and should not be used as a plot point unless there is a reason for it. Characters will not be resurrected an infinite number of times and your character's death can have an effect on other characters as well.

Characters start in game with 10 levels out of 12 full of essence. A character death depletes two levels of essence to resurrect both the character and their animas. An animas resurrection depletes one level of essence. Some events may cause characters who die as a result of them to lose more or fewer levels of essence than usual. If for any reason you are unsure of how many levels are shown on your character's bar on the taken page please ask the mods to clarify. Essence levels can be restored one at a time through ic rewards.
๐Ÿœ™ Resurrection
After their first resurrection on entering the game, character resurrections happen very differently. When characters die their essence leaves their body and they are free to roam as a shadowy ghost, observing the world in a circular area about 5 meters in diameter (approximately 5.5 yards). The world is colorless, dark, and surrounded by mist. While there, characters can not interact with the world or see any living creatures and no living creatures can observe them. However, if characters die close enough to one another and at similar times they may see and interact with one another while in this shadowy realm.

Eventually, the dead character will begin to notice a figure following them along the dense fog at the edge of their confined area, two sets of eyes glowing blue as they watch the character's progress. When their eyes finally meet those of the rider, darkness rolls out of the fog and consumes them. The character feels the same sensation they felt on their first awakening, the backward pull of time as their bodies piece themselves back together and heal from any injuries, no matter how great. Once more they come to, gasping for air with their mind reeling but their mind and body reconcile with being alive again quickly this time.

Their animas and the strange device that first brought the creature to them are close at hand, but their vial will have to be found if it was relocated. When next they look at it, the blue liquid within is lower than it was before. Occasionally, when the light is low and their mind distracted they catch a glimpse of a hooded specter with glowing blue eyes watching them, just out of the corner of their eye. But when they chase that vision there is nothing but a tree, a building, or a passing stranger there.

It can take anywhere from 48 hours to ten days for a dead character to resurrect. It takes exactly one week for an animas that dies alone to return to their person.
