๐Ÿœ™ What are Animas?
Animas (singular and plural) are living creatures in the game that are unique to awakened characters. They are created from a piece of a character's 'soul' or essence mixed with their blood. Once created they share a link with the character who made them. Their appearance, physiology, and abilities will change throughout the game as a direct correlation to your character's decisions and actions.

Small and relatively powerless at the start, your character's animas shares many of their personality traits and quirks. They are fiercely protective of the character that created them and share that character's impulses and thoughts. Animas act on their own and develop in their own way. Despite being born of magic they are unremarkable at first: nothing more than a fragile animal. If a character is hurt, physically or mentally, their animas shares their pain and discomfort. When a character dies their animas disappears into a cloud of red or blue dust and returns with them when they are resurrected.

Characters can sense their animas' emotions and physical presence through a bond like an empathic link and can attempt to control their actions through this. A character can sense when their animas have been injured or are in emotional distress and can feel their pain. The more injured an animas is, the more energy they drain from the character. This can cause illness, emotional numbing, or exhaustion if the injury is great. Essentially a part of their inner 'spirit' dies when the animas does. While it is gone they will get phantom feelings of it being nearby, but it is never there. The animas will return within a week and when it does the emotions the character had not felt during its absence will hit them all at once. Animas cannot be permanently killed unless the essence in the character's soul vial is drained completely. This only happens when the character has left the game through a drop or their final death.
๐Ÿœ™ Choosing an Animas
An animas is a reflection of your character's inner 'soul', everything that makes them who they are. Animas can be any non-magical creature without magical powers, mutant abilities or other unique traits that would make them superior to other animas. Don't worry, they can acquire all of those, and more, later. Venomous, poisonous, and flying animas are acceptable but entirely water-reliant creatures that can not live and move on land are not. Your character's animas must be able to survive and move on its own and go wherever your character goes.

An Animas can be no smaller than a house mouse(19g/0.68oz) and no larger than a golden retriever(32kg/70lbs). Despite this size restriction, a character's animas is not constrained to their real-life size. A character could have a mouse-sized cricket or a golden retriever-sized bear as their animas. Please keep enlarged animals close to the lower end of the scale and shrunken animals close to the higher end of the scale.

Animals present on Earth are acceptable animas. Players may also choose non-magical fantasy creatures that fit the setting. If you are unsure your animas is one that can be used in-game, contact the mod team. Never be afraid to ask questions or ask for help. You also have the option of asking us to suggest an animas for your character before you app. We also compiled an assortment of random trait-based suggestions if you would rather browse that. The list is a limited and generalized assortment intended to help spark ideas and is not a set guideline.
๐Ÿœ™ Devices
The Courier is made of 20 individual triangular module segments initially configured as an icosahedron. No one knows where they came from, but according to NPCs it is believed they were created by the combined efforts of an alchemist and an engineer who have yet to claim credit for their invention. The devices appeared a few years ago when they seemed to fall from the sky during a massive thunderstorm.

Each device has its own unique cosmetic design and magical signature. Once it is touched by a person, the gears within it tick and turn in the rhythm of the heartbeat of that person. The exception is with awakened characters. Their devices mimic the heartbeat of their animas. The modules attach to each other with some form of magnetism-inspired magic but repel modules that are not part of their original composition, rejecting them. The rejected pieces 'die', going dark and silent until they are reattached to the modules that match their signature.

The device is capable of being arranged into any shape the triangular modules can hold and each piece functions the same. Most NPCs have only one to four module segments, so they are unaware of any benefits to using more than four of the modules. The more segments placed together, the greater the power the device is capable of utilizing. A pyramid made of four modules is capable of reaching across the entirety of a major city. A diamond made of eight modules can reach between two cities. Sixteen modules can reach across all three cities. the full twenty-sided device awakened characters acquire fits in the palm of a human hand and can allow them to reach other devices across all three cities and most of the wildlands but are limited beyond that and seem to completely lose functionality and power once a character steps into the unclaimed lands.

Within the claimed lands the device never needs to be charged and no magic is required to use it. It responds intuitively to the desires of its owner. It will reach out to other devices either within its range or to the specific individuals the owner would like to communicate with on its own. From there it can project their voice, image, or thoughts to the other device owners. Each module has a non-functional ornamental back and a glass-covered functional side.

Audio:
Sound comes from the devices themselves, meaning others around the device-holder can hear what comes from it as well.

Visual:
The surface of the outer modules displays the images captured by the device sending the message, allowing a 20-sided device to give a nearly complete view of everything around it while a single piece will show only what the outside (the glass-covered gear side) can observe, such as a face or something directly in front of the user. Devices do not need to be held to be used and can be as far as two arms' length from the user. A user can control what others see by turning the modules they do not want to 'see' anything inward, placing the ornamental side outward.

Thoughts: Text
Thoughts are not transmitted directly and uninhibited. A character must actively choose the thoughts they wish to send and those words will appear as text only to the intended recipients. The text is held as a message rather than sent live the way the other messages are. These messages can be viewed by holding a module of the device gear-side down over a flat surface. The device will show the written message or translate the written message into a commonly known vibration-based language for those who can not see or read visual languages. The sender of these messages must sign their messages in some form for the recipient to know who the message came from and as such, messages sent this way cannot always be trusted to have come from the signed name.

Death and Couriers that cannot be Reached:
Animas Death: If a character's animas has died, and the character has not, the device's heartbeat shifts to mimic the character's heartbeat the way couriers ordinarily do for NPCs.

Character Death and Couriers that are out of Range/Don't Exist: Anyone specifically attempting to reach the courier of a deceased character, a courier that is out of range, or a courier that does not exist will receive an immediate response: Audio feedback that sounds like hundreds of whispers very quietly talking over one another.
